First, some context. This post came about after some internal Rogue DJs chat and is intended as a spark for discussion. I purposefully angled the tone in a contrarian way to get some debate going.
How much do we really need?
The AlphaTheta Omnis-Duo appeared ahead of the NAMM 2024 rush, offering a completely standalone DJ controller that’s not Pioneer DJ but still part of the Pioneer DJ ecosystem. It’s battery powered, but doesn’t have speakers. It has Bluetooth and WiFi, but doesn’t have any streaming services (yet). It’s two deck, with all the basic controls you’d need for mixing other people’s music.
Here’s a question for you
“With the type of mixing a vast majority of DJs do, does the AlphaTheta Omnis-Duo meet the criteria for having the perfect feature-set?”
Yeah yeah. AlphaTheta is still a terrible name, bro. And obviously it’s too expensive and the colour is terrible and Denon DJ did this all (and more) like five years ago. But other than that, is the Omnis-Duo everything the majority of DJs need right now? What would make the ideal controller for at least 90% of DJs in 2024?
In our group chat, this bounced around for most of today, and pops up in our Strategic Industry Briefings™️ regularly. With all the chasing for the next big thing, would the Omnis-Duo be a controller that most everyone uses all the deck features (I’m excluding the mic section, since that’s very much for a whole other niche of the community)?
Over to you
We’d like to hear from you. Give us your views on what features are needed, used or irrelevant.
